WHAT IS SMART LENS?

At a young age, a person's natural intraocular lens is capable of focusing at any distance. People after the age of 40 gradually lose the ability to focus as their near vision muscles weaken and they need to wear reading glasses.

Premium multifocal - trifocal or EDOF enhanced depth sensing lenses, known as Smart lenses in Turkey, are artificial lenses that compensate for lost of near vision and focusing ability.

TO WHOM IS THE SMART LENS APPLIED?

  • After lens opacification is removed in cataract surgeries, smart lenses can be applied into the eye if the patient's eye structure and conditions are suitable.
  • People over 45 years of age, with impaired near vision, with significant impairment in distance vision, who have difficulty in maintaining their life, work and social life with distance and reading glasses can be applied smart lenses.
  • In childhood cataract surgeries, it can be used in appropriate cases, taking into account growth factors.
  • It can be used, in appropriate cases, in eyes that have undergone laser surgery for eye disorders such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia for recurrence and near vision loss after the age of 45.

WHO SHOULD NOT APPLIED SMART LENSES?

Smart lenses are not suitable for patients with progressive eye disease, uncontrolled glaucoma patients, retinopathy patients with bleeding due to diabetes, and patients receiving treatment for yellow spot disease (macular degeneration).

It is not applied to people who only have near vision problems and do not have distant vision problems.

HOW MUCH ARE SMART LENS PRICES?

Before making cost calculations for smart lenses, it should be known that these lenses are surgically implanted into the eye and will remain in the eye for a lifetime. After the surgery, it may not be possible to compensate the deterioration and problems that will occur in the following years.
